Tea… star of the evening

How about a drink in the late afternoon? But what drink? Too late for a beer, too early for that glass of wine. What about that happy hour’s summer tea-time? This is the hour to enjoy a cocktail with something original to impress, that is, aromatic teas. Make a virgin cocktail – alcohol free – or a classic cocktail where the alcohol of choice will come out with the flavour of the teas. When it comes to cocktails, anything goes; it’s the result that matters and with tea you’re bound to make an impression. Let your imagination run riot, give your cocktails names that even the best barmen will envy.

Here are 3 recipes to be going on with:

Start with a Matcha Senses which will emphasize the union of whisky and matcha:

    Ingredients:

   • 2 teaspoons of Matcha green tea diluted in 100ml of hot water
   • 100 ml of whisky
   • 1 small sprig of fresh mint
   • 250 ml of soda
   • The juice of 2 green lemons
   • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

    Execution:

   • Beat in a mortar the mint leaves together with the lemon juice and sugar
   • In a tall glass add the ice cubes, whisky, the Matcha and the mint leaves with the lemon and sugar. Add the soda.
   • Garnish with mint leaves and a slice of green lemon

Follow this up with a Virgin Agra Breeze

    Ingredients:

   • Add 2.5gr of Agra tea to 150ml of hot water
   • 20ml (4 teaspoons) of fresh lime juice
   • 25ml (5 teaspoons) of grapefruit juice
   • 15ml (3 teaspoons) of brown sugar syrup*
   • Add the grapefruit soda

*For the brown sugar syrup
Put 1 cup of water and 1 cup of brown sugar in a saucepan and stir. Place on a low heat and stir until the sugar has completely melted. Then add another cup of sugar. When that has diluted, allow your syrup to cool. Strain.

    Execution:

   • Put the Agra tea in hot water and, after 8-10 minutes, strain it.
   • Place all the ingredients in a shaker (apart from the grapefruit soda) together with the ice. Serve in a chilled glass. Add the grapefruit soda.

Finish with the cocktail of the day, the Moscow Red Square to drink in this year’s world cup.

     Ingredients:

   • 60ml vodka
   • 30ml fresh lime juice
   • 15ml (3 teaspoons)brown sugar syrup
   • 25ml (5 teaspoons) Red Square syrup*
   • Add spearmint leaves and lime slices for garnish.

   *For the brown sugar syrup
Put 1 cup of water and 1 cup of brown sugar in a saucepan and stir. Place on a low heat and stir until the sugar has completely melted. Then add another   cup of sugar. When that has diluted, allow your syrup to cool. Strain.

   *For the Red Square syrup
Boil 200ml of water, add  200gr of brown sugar, stir well
And add 15gr of Red Square and leave for 10-12 minutes.
   Strain. Now it’s ready.
Execution:
• Put ice in a shaker and pour all the liquid ingredients on top. Stir and empty into a glass with ice.
• Garnish with 2-3 spearmint leaves and a slice of lime.
