This exceptionally high-quality Gyokuro comes from Yame, a city in Fukuoka, Japan. When prepared correctly, the shiny, deep green, needle-shaped leaves produce an extremely tasty brew with a thick, velvety body that fills the mouth pleasantly. Notes of spinach and butter predominate, with an overall feel of rich vegetable broth.
In Japan, tea production has become entirely mechanised and automated, from the leaf picking stage to the finished product. Only a very small percentage of the best Gyokuro, such as this tea, is collected and processed by hand by farmers.
